Cathy Ellis: On the Road to the Pan Mass Challenge

Four years ago, Cathy met Steve Branfman, captain of one of the largest cycling teams in Boston competing in the Pan Mass Challenge. Steve started Team Kermit in honor of his son, Jared, who passed away after a battle with brain and spinal cancer at the age of 23. Cathy, who recently learned her college roommate had been diagnosed with a brain tumor, felt compelled to join the team.

Since then, she’s been a proud member of an amazing and spirited group of cyclists who hail from across the country and span six decades. Training with them has been one of the most rewarding experiences of her life and the only thing stopping her in her tracks was persistent cramping.

“No matter how well prepared I feel, muscle cramping can come on at any point during a race and have a major negative impact on my performance.”

When HOTSHOT started our beta program, Cathy was one of the first people to sign up to be a tester. Since then, it’s been a game-changer for her – allowing her to train harder and push longer. Having cramped so badly in last year’s PMC, Ellis is confident that she will be in control of her ride, saying, “This year I should be ok because I’ll make sure that I have HOTSHOT with me to keep cramps at bay and keep my system calm!”

We salute her and especially, Team Kermit’s efforts and have made a donation to the team. Visit her page here
