Best New England Fall Hiking Trails

September 23rd is the FIRST DAY of fall! So, in the spirit of fall approaching, we compiled a list of some of our favorite hikes around New England. Here’s what we got:

 

1. Falling Waters Trail to Little Haystack, New Hampshire

This 5.6-mile hike to Little Haystack Mountain, a peak in the White Mountains, is open year-round for hiking and snowshoeing! This trial has an elevation gain of 3,034 feet. Feel free to bring your furry best friends along for the hike on a leash!

 

2. Chimney Pond, Mount Katahdin, Maine

This is a 6.3 mile out-and-back hike with an elevation gain of 1,463 feet. This is a very popular area for people to backpack, camp and hike, so you’ll likely make some friends while exploring!

 

3. Sterling Pond Trail, Vermont

This is a shorter 2.1 mile out-and-back hike with an elevation gain of 938 feet. This hike is a perfect choice for a quick day activity with the dogs!

 

4. Bear Mountain Trail, Connecticut

This is a 6.1 mile loop trail near Taconic, CT with an elevation gain of 1,683 feet. This area welcomes dogs. Fun fact: Bear Mountain is the highest peak in Connecticut! 

 

5. Cheshire Harbor Trail to Mount Greylock, Massachusetts

This is a 6.2 mile out-and-back hike with an elevation gain of 1,916 feet. This spot is popular for hikers and runners in the fall! Fun Fact: the summit of Mount Greylock is the highest peak in Massachusetts!
