40th Anniversary Chicago Marathon!

With fall all around us, we know what you’re thinking. (No, not the return of pumpkin-spiced everything.) It’s time for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon!  We couldn’t be more excited if we tried. One of the most storied marathons in the world, the Chicago Marathon promises to live up to its stellar reputation again this year. And HOTSHOT will be there for all the Chi-town magic!

This year marks a milestone for the race—it is the Chicago Marathon’s 40th anniversary! Thankfully, races are like wine, jazz, and sweatshirts: they only get better over time. We know those of you running this year have been preparing for months and tailoring your training to the demands of the course. Make sure you take note of the dos and don’ts, of course. For instance, you can bring your music along, but not your GoPro. And make sure you avoid some common missteps. If you are flying in, bring your shoes in a carry-on (not that anyone’s luggage is ever lost on race day, right?). And pack a spare, already broken-in pair, in your luggage. No new or unusual foods in the days leading up to race day. Pack in your energy foods and hydration in the 48-72 hours leading up the starting line. Pre-race lecture: done!

While all eyes will be glued on the runners, we haven’t forgotten you, loyal spectators. You need to make sure you’re ready for the big day, too! Race organizers have put together a great instruction guide for which CTA lines and exits you need to take depending on where you want to view the race. If there is a specific runner you’re cheering for this year, ask them about their pace so you can plan multiple stops to see them! And let’s make sure there is plenty of shouting and encouragement in those tough middle miles and the mentally demanding 20-22 mile ranges. The nutritional charting, training alterations, equipment preparation, and mental prepping are the athletes’ job. Letting them know someone is in their corner, believing in them and pushing them to the finish. Oh, and be sure to tune in for race highlights throughout the event on 670 The Score.

There are also some familiar names gracing the pavement this year. Recent additions to the line up include Stanley Biwott, a former New York City Marathon winner, Feyisa Lilesa, a silver medalist in the 2016 Rio Olympics. Defending champs Abel Kirui and Florence Kiplagat will also be in the elite pack. If Hollywood is your scene, actor Brian d’Arcy James will also be running this year. You never know who you might see!

Race organizers believe this year may be the largest finishing group in race history. Whether you’re on the podium, setting a new PR, or pulling from the depths just to get across the line, enjoy the day. We all race for difference reasons, but chief among them is a love for the sport. Remember that and make the most of all 26.2 miles. We wish you all the best and can’t wait to see you in Chicago!

Speaking of HOTSHOT being in Chicago, let’s meet up! We’ll be at the Abbott Health & Fitness Expo Friday and Saturday, October 6-7. We’ll have product on hand, some pretty irresistible deals, and eager ears ready to hear your training stories and answer any HOTSHOT questions. Impatient? Us to. So don’t wait! You can pick up your pack of HOTSHOT here and we can hangout anytime you want. We’re always up on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
